The Main Page Area
This is the area that gets updated when a menu item is clicked.

This type menu page can be very useful. It keeps the navigation buttons available to the browser while the pages are browsed. It allows the browser to quickly change from one page to another without having to scroll down the page to get to the navigation buttons.

Easily jumping from page to page may be good or bad depending on your page. If you want the people browsing your pages to quickly hop from one page to another this is the best. If you want them to at least scroll down the page to get to the navigation buttons don't use this type of menu page.

There are several good implementations of this type of menu. First the "Main Page Frame" is smaller and contains a company Logo. The Information Frame is large and gives allot of information about the menu item. When a menu item is clicked an entire new page is loaded over the entire screen.

Second is the use of advertisement in one of the frames. This may be a sponsor of the site. Every time a menu item is clicked a new sponsor is loaded into the sponsor frame.

This type menu page requires JavaScript. This means that the browser must be Netscape 2.0 and above or compatible. At the time of this writing 80% to 90% of the browsers can use this type of menu. This usually requires that alternate pages be made for the remaining 10% to 20%.

To the left is the menu. As you run your mouse over the menu items, information is displayed about the item. The information is either displayed in a frame below this one or in the status bar at the bottom of the page.

If you are using Netscape 3 or greater the dot, in the menu, changes color as the mouse goes over it. If Image buttons are used, instead of text, the entire button can change as the mouse goes over the item.
